Is Microneedling Better Than a Chemical Peel?

Beautiful woman receiving microneedling rejuvenation treatment. Mesotherapy.

Both microneedling and chemical peel cause minor trauma to the skin, stimulating the body’s natural healing response and replacing older, damaged skin with strong and healthy new skin. Which one is best for your specific needs is something best determined by an experienced plastic surgeon.

Microneedling

During the microneedling process, a small tool is used to create micro-punctures in the treatment area. This process stimulates the body’s healing response, prompting it to send fibroblasts to the area for increased collagen production. The result is a healthier, more youthful, and unblemished appearance.

Microneedling can be used to treat:

  • Fine lines and wrinkles
  • Surgical and acne scars
  • Stretch marks
  • Loose skin
  • Large pores
  • Rough skin texture
  • Sun and age spots
  • Pigmentation irregularities

Microneedling may require three or more treatments spaced several weeks apart for results to be realized. This will be discussed with you in greater detail during your initial consultation.

Chemical Peel

There are different grades of chemical peel, but all work to exfoliate the skin, stimulate the body’s natural healing response, and encourage the production of smooth, blemish-free skin.

A light chemical peel can be used to treat:

  • Fine lines
  • Acne
  • Uneven skin tone
  • Dry Skin

Light peels can be repeated every two to five weeks.

A medium chemical peel may be used to treat:

  • Medium wrinkles
  • Acne scars
  • Uneven skin tone

A medium chemical peel can be repeated every three to four months.

A deep chemical peel can treat:

  • Deep wrinkles
  • Scars
  • Precancerous growths

It is not recommended to repeat deep chemical peels.

Recovery from a chemical peel is dependent on the type you have had done and how well you follow pre and postoperative directions. During your time in our care, we will provide honest and useful information about your treatment and recovery to help you plan accordingly.
