Lipoaugmentation
Lipoaugmentation involves transferring fat from one part of the body to another to create a fuller, more youthful appearance.
Common areas of lipoaugmentation include the face, breasts and areas that may have a contour deformity secondary to trauma or previous surgery. It is also a popular way to enhance small spots where a loss of fat has caused a shallow dip, including the eyes, back of the hands or legs.
Because the amount of fat that may survive after injection may differ, multiple procedures may be necessary to increase the fullness to specific locations. Your surgeon will discuss specifics based upon your specific defect.
Lipoaugmentation for breast enhancement is still controversial and although utilized for reconstruction following mastectomy, recommendations for fat augmentation in women with a strong family history of breast cancer or genetic predisposition must be individually reviewed with your physician.
